Peonies from Tasmania (PfT) has been cultivating peonies since 2004 and the company is owned and operated by partners Peter Botting and Hans van Niekerk.

Peter first started cultivating Peonies at Forth in north-west Tasmania in the early 90s and extended output to include plantings at Castra and Nietta. Peter began supplying fresh cut flowers to markets on the eastern seaboard in 1998.

Hans van Niekerk migrated to Australia in 2001 from Holland where his family had been peony growers for many years.

With a deliberate focus to settle where flowers grow best, Hans chose the north-west township of Barrington which is only a few kilometres from where Peter was growing peonies.

In 2004 Peter and Hans merged resources and established Peonies from Tasmania with the goal to become the best grower of peonies in Australia.

Building on Peter's networks they have continued to successfully expand the domestic market every year and are now poised to enter the export market.

In season 2007 export trials have been into the UK market we commenced and in Season 2008 these activities will be supported further with market development activities being undertaken in Asia.

Varieties grown are a portfolio of old-world European cultivars and some new world US hybrids. Over the next two years, PfT will boost growing stock with white and red styles that will be imported from Holland.
